Before every ride

Tap each one as you check it. Nothing is saved.

• Tires firmSqueeze both. The right pressure is printed on the tire's side. Soft tires are the most common cause of flats.
• Both brakes stop the bikeSqueeze each lever and push the bike forward. The levers shouldn't touch the handlebar, and both should spring back fully.
• Battery charged and clicked inCheck the charge, and that it's locked into its mount. Any cracks, swelling or a strange smell: don't ride, and read battery safety.
• Wheels and handlebar tightLift each end and drop it a few inches: nothing should rattle. Handlebar shouldn't twist against the front wheel.
• Chain clean and running smoothlyTurn the pedals backward. A dry, rusty or noisy chain needs lube.
• Lights workFront white and rear red, if there's any chance you'll ride at dusk.
• Helmet onFlorida requires one under 16. It's a good idea at any age on a bike this fast.
