Also called: e-bike battery, battery pack, li-ion
What it does
It stores a lot of energy in a small, light pack. That's also why damaged, cheap or badly charged packs can catch fire.
Signs of a problem
- Range dropping
- Bike switching off under load or on hills
- Heat, swelling, leaking or a strange smell (a danger sign)
Safe things to check
- Look for cracks, dents or swelling. Any of those, or heat or smell: stop and read battery safety.
- Check it's clicked fully into its mount.
Looking after it
- Use only the charger made for your battery.
- Store and charge it out of the heat and away from exits.
- Never open a battery pack.
